On Saturday (28), RIOgaleão Cargo received an Antonov An-124, the largest cargo aircraft in operation in the world. The plane, designed by a Ukrainian designer in the 1980s, brought important equipment to operate the oil and gas industry in Rio de Janeiro.
The last time a plane of this type landed at Rio de Janeiro International Airport was in December 2020.
The An-124 is 69 meters long and is capable of carrying up to 150 tons of cargo. Its 24-wheel landing gear allows operations on asphalt, dirt, grass and snow runways.
RIOgaleão has the largest take-off and landing runway in Brazil, more than 4 kilometers long, as well as a strong infrastructure to handle aircraft of this size. “The arrival of the Antonov at Rio de Janeiro International Airport reinforces RIOgaleão’s role as an engine of the economy and a strategic center in Brazil for large-scale logistics operations, as well as increasingly validating the competence and confidence of our customers and flight partners. Leandro Lopez, Commercial Director at RIOgaleão Cargo, comments: : “This is a challenge.”
