WASHINGTON (AP) – Representatives from the transition teams of former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris met for the first time at the White House, the Biden administration said Wednesday, as the outgoing administration plans to smooth the transition for whoever wins in November.
Chief of Staff Jeffrey Zients hosted a meeting of the White House Transition Coordination Committee — the government’s top transition planning group — on Tuesday, and for the first time this year, Harris and Trump aides were in attendance. The meeting and the invitation of representatives from both parties is required by the presidential transition law, according to which the nominated representative candidates act as advisers.
According to the White House, the Roosevelt Room meeting lasted about an hour and included updates on various transition preparations, including plans to provide office space to the candidates, identifying officials to fill incumbent political appointee positions during the transition period, and preparing memos on the agency’s operations for a potential president’s team.
