Involved in the war in the Gaza Strip and threatening to start a new conflict against Hezbollah, in Lebanon, Israel was the target of a missile attack fired from Yemen, Thursday (26/9).
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the projectiles targeted central regions of the country, such as the capital Tel Aviv. But the military said it had only identified one projectile, which was intercepted by Israel’s air defense system.
Israeli authorities have not provided further details regarding the case. However, media in the country claimed that at least 17 people were injured in the attack.
So far, the Houthi group – which controls parts of Yemen – has not claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the attack on Israeli territory came hours after the group’s leader, Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi, announced support for Hezbollah amid increased Israeli bombing of Lebanon.
On September 15, the Yemeni group had attacked Israel with supersonic missiles, without causing any casualties.
The Houthis, along with groups that are part of the resistance axis, have carried out a series of attacks against Israel in support of Hamas since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip. Yemeni organizations are mainly involved in attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
