The verdict is expected to be heard against returning Syrians.

A Syrian returnee and alleged ISIS terrorist faces sentencing today in Düsseldorf (11 a.m.). The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has asked for a two-year suspended sentence for the German-French woman who claims to be from Trier, and her lawyer has asked for a lighter sentence.

The 30-year-old is said to have traveled to Syria in September 2013 and first joined the terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra and then, a few months later, the terrorist group ISIS. He is also said to have helped procure military equipment for ISIS.

The defendant is said to have returned to Germany in early 2014 and lived in Cologne, but remained a member of ISIS until at least February 2015. After almost four months in detention, the defendant was released.

At the hearing at the Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf, he also admitted to having persuaded Sarah O. from Konstanz, who has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison as a slave owner and terrorist, to go to Syria. It was an online friend of his.
