A federal representative Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) it will happen dear by title Honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro. The initiative is proposed by councilor Thais Ferreira (PSOL-RJ) and approved in the plenary session of the City Council held on the 17th.
This award is given to people who are not native to the municipality, but have carried out activities that have made a relevant contribution to the municipality.
In Erika Hilton’s case, the recognition highlights her work in defending the rights of the LGBTQIAPN+ and Black population, in addition to her representation as a trans woman in spaces of power.
The awarding ceremony is scheduled to take place later this month, at Rio de Janeiro City Hall, but the presence of lawmakers at the ceremony has not been confirmed.
Erika Santos Silva, known as Erika Hilton, is a prominent political figure on the Brazilian scene. Elected as federal deputy for São Paulo, she became the first trans woman to hold a seat in the Chamber of Deputies.
Throughout his career, Hilton has defended the rights of black people and the LGBTQIAPN+ community, being elected with more than 250 thousand votes, one of the most voted candidates in the city of São Paulo.
