The rights of indigenous peoples and Afro-Mexican communities will be recognized: Ignacio Mier

Deputy coordinator of Morena in the Senate of the Republic, Ignacio Mier, celebrating that all Parliamentary Groups agreed on constitutional reform so that indigenous peoples have their legal personality and heritage constitutionally recognized, after 500 years.

In the same way, this right must be extended to Afro-Mexicans who find themselves in their condition as new colonizers.

“This move goes beyond simply considering them as entities of public interest, but also elevates them to the status they deserve as bearers of invaluable cultural wealth,” he said.

The Senator from Puebla stressed that this proposal was possible thanks to the commitment of the Fourth Transformation and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to demonstrate and recognize the public rights of the people.

“This legislative work marks a significant step towards building a more just, egalitarian, inclusive and diverse Mexico. It is a commitment to social justice and equality, and represents progress towards building a society where all cultures and communities are valued and respected in their entirety,” Mier added.

“We continue to move forward in approving the reforms that make up Plan C. A package of initiatives that delivers justice and returns power to the sovereignty of the Mexican people,” the senator concluded.
