Polish police officers patrolling the banks of the Oder at the Chałupki-Bohumin border crossing helped a horse swimming in its strong current to get out of the river. The animal came from a Czech farm. It was returned to its owners safe and sound. Almost 5,600 police officers from the Opole and Lower Silesia garrisons are operating in the flood-affected areas, as well as additional riot police from Łódź and Warsaw, said the spokeswoman for the Chief of Police, Insp. Katarzyna Nowak. She noted that these were officers from all divisions.

Police officers at the Chałupki-Bohumin border crossing noticed a horse in the water, which was trying unsuccessfully to get out of it.

At one point, the animal swam closer to the dam on the Polish side. The police ran along the bank towards the horse, seized the moment and grabbed the reins. Thanks to this, the horse managed to stay on the bank and get out of the water on its own.

— reported the Racibórz police station.

Nothing happened to the animal. It turned out that it came from a Czech farm. The horse was returned to its owner shortly after the operation. He was taken to the stables.

In recent days, the water level in the Oder at the measuring point in Chałupki has remained above the alarm level of 420 cm. It was crossed on Saturday around noon. Since then, it has grown to over 700 cm. On Sunday, around noon, it approached the top of the embankments. From there, the water has been receding very slowly. By early Monday afternoon, the level was 690 cm.

she said.

She called for messages communicated by services to be taken seriously.

On Sunday, there was a situation when we asked people to evacuate. They refused. And about a dozen minutes later, when the water had already flooded their houses and they were sitting on the roofs, it was impossible to reach them by land or boat. They had to wait for the evacuation by helicopter.
