On the 108th birthday of BHARAT RATNA ‘MSSubbulakshmi’, Vidya Balan presented a photo tribute to the legend. She recreated some of the legendary singer’s iconic looks and shared the photos on Instagram. Vidya Balan also wrote a long heartfelt note about how she thought about this tribute. Vidya Balan wrote, “On her 108th birthday, I feel honored and happy to pay a photographic tribute to ‘BHARAT RATNA’ MSSubbulakshmi (MSAmma) , popularly known as the ‘Queen of Music’ by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Sarojini Naidu’s ‘Nightingale of India’ This is @anuparthasarathy and mine a humble tribute to the legend MSSubbulakshmi – The Original Style, executed with great understated effect that was a study in simplicity and added glamour, this feature showcases the four sarees worn and favored by MSAmma in the 60s and 80s, a depiction of MSAmma’s concert persona.
Decoding Amma’s iconic look, Vidya Balan wrote, “If the rich, vibrant and unique sarees were half of MSAmma’s look, the other half was a simple accessory ensemble that included a traditional kumkumam and vibhuti on her forehead, 2 distinctive nose studs on each side, and a model poo(jasmine) embellished kondai(pull).”
MSSubbulakshmi’s granddaughter Sikkilma helped Vidya Balan recreate the look. Vidya captioned the post with these words, “Much THANK YOU for making this heartfelt effort. Thank you so much. @sikkilmala madam (famous flutist and granddaughter of MSSubbulakshmi) for your valuable guidance And how can I thank you enough @anuparthasarathy for coming up with this when I expressed my long cherished dream of playing MSAmma . Vidya Balan was recently seen in Do Aur Do Pyaar and will next be seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, reprising her popular role from the first installment of the film Manbana. Kartik Aaryan-Triptii Dimri movie is releasing this Diwali.
