Production ahead of China’s competition“made in Europe”technological flight forward can protect us.
Strict environmental regulations, high labour costs, inflationary crisis, disruptions in the supply chain – these are the main factors highlighted by experts when asked about the reasons for the decline in household appliance production in Europe. In 2012, almost 71 million pieces of large household appliances left factories in the EU, in 2021 – 67 million, and last year less than 55 million.
Bartosz Michalski, Senior Advisor at the Polish Economic Institute, points out that EU environmental regulations are particularly problematic in the case of this industry and are not limited to the production phase. – Requirements related to recycling, recovery of raw materials and energy efficiency standards are being strengthened. In addition, there is a requirement that by 2030, 90 percent of packaging for large household appliances should be reusable, he notes.
