Left-wing MPs Anna Maria Żukowska and Anita Kucharska-Dziedzic respond positively to the creation of the so-called coalition council. PSL MP Marek Sawicki is sceptical about it. “When a multi-stage structure is created, decision-making becomes more distant,” he says. KO does not say “no” – says Dorota Łoboda.
On Monday, Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia announced that last week he had held talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk about creating a so-called coalition council. This is a working group that will meet more frequently than the leaders of the parties that make up the ruling coalition.
This will be a group of our closest colleagues who will meet weekly, in coalition, about things we can do together, what needs to be done separately, what is the protocol for differences for leaders to resolve.
– said the Speaker of the Sejm.

Divided opinions on the advice
Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, asked on Tuesday by the PAP about details about such a council, said he was in favour of the coalition partners conducting further discussions on common positions and ideas.
We have a coalition agreement, which is the basis for our smooth operation. We will implement what is in the coalition agreement and when new ideas arise – I speak as the leader of the PSL – I am always very open to them.
– he declared. He assured that there is a “council of leaders”, but it is equally important that the coalition council can also function at parliamentary level.
The PSL is very, very open to any dialogue and understanding.
– assured Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Other politicians from the ruling coalition commented on the issue of creating the council in an interview with PAP. The president of the Left Club, Anna Maria Żukowska, said that the meeting on the creation of the coalition’s parliamentary council took place before the parliamentary recess.
The meeting at Mr. Hołownia’s house was attended by club and party presidents, as well as ministers
she said. She thinks it’s a good idea.
Deputy head of the Left club Anita Kucharska-Dziedzic admitted in an interview with PAP that she knew nothing about the plans to create a parliamentary coalition council and would like to know the details of Marshal Hołownia’s idea.
If a broader group, beyond the leaders, got together and discussed current issues, it might be a good idea.
– she assessed. On the other hand, she added, “the question arises as to what powers this council will have to make any decision”.
According to the deputy, such a group could be used to resolve conflicts within the governing coalition “before they spread and become topics discussed in the media”.
But – as we know – all ideas are good until we start talking about details.
– noted Kucharska-Dziedzic.
PSL MP Marek Sawicki told PAP that he became aware of the idea of creating a coalition council from Marshal Hołownia’s statement on Monday. He noted that a council consisting of coalition leaders existed from the beginning and that the leaders met frequently.
What worries me is that Marshal Szymon Hołownia expects the creation of another council. Because, honestly, I remember the history – both the most recent and the previous one – that when any problems arose, councils were convened or appointed, and I would expect agency, not just advice.
– Sawicki emphasized.
Commenting that, according to Marshal Hołownia, this council aims to improve and accelerate the work of the coalition, the deputy replied that he did not believe in such acceleration.
To be honest, when a multi-phase structure is created, decision-making becomes more distant and delayed, not accelerated.
– said Sawicki.
In turn, the spokeswoman for the KO club, MP Dorota Łoboda, told PAP that KO politicians do not yet know the details regarding the appointment of the so-called coalition council. She recalled that this was an idea proposed by Marshal Hołownia and so far it has been discussed mainly by the leaders.
Of course, the Civic Coalition does not say no to such an idea.
– she pointed.
Marshal Hołownia explained that the aim of the council was to improve cooperation between the coalition partners, because of course no one hides the fact that there are differences on some issues. However, when it comes to details, we will talk about it when the new parliamentary season begins, then the club presidency or the entire club will meet and we will discuss the issue.
– Loboda announced.
Therefore, we have to wait until the deputies return to the Sejm to answer the question: who exactly would sit on the council, how many members from each club would be present, and whether they would be the club presidents?
– added the KO deputy.
Details are unknown
Politicians from Poland 2050 also admitted in an interview with PAP that they do not know the details of the council. They emphasize that so far only the idea and concept of its creation have been created.
As Polish 2050-TD MP Żaneta Cwalina-Śliwowska told PAP, all decisions regarding the council, including personnel issues and who will sit on it, are still under negotiation.
Details are still to come, so it’s too early to make any statements. For now, everything is in the concept stage.
– added Cwalina-Śliwowska.
