Climate activists from the “Last Generation” group have decided to stage another “show off”, this time in Germany. The local branch of the organisation briefly halted air traffic this morning. Flights were temporarily suspended at Cologne/Bonn Airport as well as in Berlin and Nuremberg. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser strongly condemned the airport protests.
As announced by “Last Generation” itself, two activists each invaded the airports of Berlin-Brandenburg, Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Cologne-Bonn.
A spokesman for Cologne/Bonn Airport confirmed that several people had gained access “to the air area”. According to police, the airport fence had been cut through.
The protesters were temporarily detained and charged with trespassing, damaging property and dangerous interference with air traffic.
Wave of protests
Recently, such climate protests have repeatedly taken place at German airports, including Dortmund, Leipzig/Halle and Frankfurt am Main airports.
According to “The Last Generation,” the protest was directed against the use of fossil fuels. The group is pushing to phase out oil, gas and coal by 2030.
These criminal actions are dangerous and stupid.
