The operation targets targets linked to Hezbollah located near Israel’s borders, according to a statement issued by the IDF.
The IDF announcement indicates that Israel has not launched a large-scale military operation in Lebanon, but is conducting some type of special operations there. The targets attacked as part of the operation were to be identified on the basis of previous intelligence. These sites are located in villages in southern Lebanon, and pose a “threat to Israeli communities in northern Israel,” according to an Israeli army statement. The Israeli army’s ground operations in Lebanon are scheduled to be supported by artillery and aviation.
Unofficially: The Lebanese army withdrew to the country
Reuters reported that residents of the town of Aita al-Shaab on Lebanon’s southern border reported intense bombing and the flight of helicopters and drones in the area. The torches were scheduled to light up the sky over the town of Romagche, which also lies on the border.
According to unofficial information, the Lebanese army was scheduled to withdraw from the border on Monday evening, and advance about 5 kilometers into Lebanon. A Lebanese army spokesman did not confirm or deny these reports. As Reuters confirms, the Lebanese army traditionally does not participate in the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
