Darwin’s theory should be removed from school textbooks because it can be misleading, said Fr. Fyodor Lukyanov, chairman of the Patriarchal Commission of the Russian Orthodox Church on Family Affairs, Protection of Motherhood and Childhood, on Friday, September 20.
“I would like to support the position expressed by Assistant Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Muslim Khuchiev and agree that it is necessary to exclude Darwin’s theory from school textbooks as it is misleading,” Lukyanov said.
He drew attention to the moral aspects of Darwin’s theory. He shared that the theory of evolution is immoral. This is due to the fact that the theory of evolution assumes the orphan nature of humanity, that is, the absence of a Creator for such a “complex and beautiful creation as the universe,” RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier, the Prime Minister’s aide, former mayor of Grozny and ex-prime minister of Chechnya Muslim Khuchiev proposed to Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov to exclude Darwin’s theory from the educational program. According to him, the erroneous theory contradicts the spiritual education of the younger generation and goes against religion.
Russians have not been able to reach a consensus on the question of human origin. VTsIOM conducted a survey involving 1,600 adult citizens. The study was timed to coincide with the 215th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, the author of the theory of evolution. The data are based on respondents’ answers for 2006, 2009 and 2024.
On September 1, it became known that a new history textbook will be tested in Belarus next academic year, reflecting the events that took place after the 2020 presidential election in the country. This was announced by the Minister of Education of the Republic Andrei Ivanets.
