In the Zamłynie district of Nysa in the Opole region, a major clean-up is underway after the floods. Paradoxically, the houses located higher up are still in the water, while the water has drained around most of the buildings below.
In Zamłyń, as RMF FM journalist Agnieszka Wyderka discovered, a major clean-up is underway. And there is an incredible amount of work.
We wait until the water goes down completely, we still have water in the basements. There is help now. We have mineral water, we have everything. But we are waiting for this water to go down. And we clean it up. – says one of the residents.
Another adds that For now, we have to wait before drying the buildings.. The surrounding area also needs to be dry because water is constantly seeping down the walls. There is also a shortage of gloves and products for disinfecting walls and floors. – says the man.
It was five feet outside, luckily there were three steps inside and the water was waist deep. All the furniture needs to be thrown out, all the flooring, all the outlets need to be replaced, the wiring needs to be replaced. The backyard is the worst – you have to get a bulldozer and take out all the mud – Another Zamłyń resident describes the enormity of the destruction.
We lost practically everything. Suddenly we discover that we have no towels, all the doors to throw away, freezers, refrigerators, a brand new corner sofa that we bought a month ago. When we enter the house there is a stench, like that of a septic tank. – he reports. We’ve perfected the entire garden – and now it’s like a hurricane has hit. This was the year we decided that everything had finally worked out, we had been setting everything up beautifully for 30 years, we finally had a little corner, a kitchen and a living room. And the water came – he adds.
And the worst part is that we would have put everything up, but the authorities said, please don’t worry, everything is under control, I’m sure it won’t flood you. There was no water here in ’97. – emphasizes the bitter man.
At a press conference on Thursday, Nysa Mayor Kordian Kolbiarz assured that there was no risk of flooding in the city. He noted, however, that there are still places where residents face difficulties with water.
He assessed that communication worked in difficult times. The situation in Nysa is very good. We are no longer at risk of flooding. We canceled the evacuation of the city – Kolbiarz assured.
At the same time, he noted that there are still places, such as the Zamłynie district of Nysa, where residents constantly struggle with water.
During the conference, the staroste of Nysa, Daniel Palimaka, pointed out several issues that he is trying to resolve together with the ministries. First, health. As you can see, the field hospital is still standing. – he emphasized.
