Fakeaways can be a great solution for those who want to maintain their fitness and weight loss goals without compromising on taste.
Instagram user @panaceapalm has shared a recipe for the “tastiest” fakeaway, which is not only “high in protein” but also low in calories, making it perfect for meal prep.
Korean Popcorn Chicken with Sweet and Sticky Rice serves four and can be stored in the fridge or freezer for future meals. Not only does it look mouth-wateringly good, but it’s also “under 500 calories,” clocks in at 495, and packs a whopping “50g of protein.”
To prepare this dish, you need 800 g of chicken breast, cut into cubes. Season the raw chicken with black pepper, soy sauce and one egg, then toss thoroughly until fully coated.
Next, put 40 g of cornmeal in the container and add the seasoned chicken. “Close the lid and shake well until the chicken is completely coated,” according to the instructions in the video.
Then place the chicken on a rack, spray with oil and either fry or air fry. If you are baking, set the oven to 210 degrees and bake for 10-14 minutes.
If you use an air pressure cooker, set it to 200 degrees and cook for 10-12 minutes. The result should be deliciously crispy chicken.
For the Korean glaze, mix 60 ml of soy sauce, 80 ml of water, two tablespoons of low-calorie ketchup, three tablespoons of gochujang paste, two tablespoons of rice vinegar, two tablespoons of honey and 30 g of brown stevia.
The clip advises: “Stir until thickened, then add the crispy popcorn chicken, toss to coat completely, then divide into four equal portions.”
Since its release, the clip has garnered over 1.2 million likes, and viewers are eager to try the recipe. Commentators have suggested replacing the rice with “cauliflower rice” as a healthier option.
The excitement is palpable among foodies, with one commenting: “I’m doing this. I just bought everything today.” Another shared his anticipation: “I’m really going to try this.”
Meanwhile, a third satisfied home cook remarked, “I just made this tonight…it was pretty good!”.
