Ukrainian energy company Energoatom wrote on Telegram that one of the cooling towers and some other equipment at the plant were damaged.
He confirmed it rosatom quoted by the TASS news agency. According to the Russian occupation authorities, the refrigeration plant was out of operation and there was no risk of radioactive contamination for residents of the city of Enerhodar, near which the plant is located.
Zelensky: Russians started the fire
Former President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Telegram that “the Russians started a fire in the cooling tower of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant” and that since capturing it, “they have been using it for nuclear blackmail.” However, the Russians claim that “the power plant was attacked by a Ukrainian kamikaze drone.”
Russia has occupied the factory for two years
Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plantthe largest nuclear power plant in Europe, has been occupied by Russia since early March 2022. Since then, Russian troops have repeatedly shelled the area of the plant, thus creating – in the opinion of the Kiev authorities – a radiation threat with unpredictable consequences.
