The family of goalkeeper Jian Kayo is seeking compensation in court over the death of the young athlete, who committed suicide aged 21, in February last year. When he died, he was defending Ituano, but he was trained at the São Paulo base, in CT Cotia.
According to journalist Diego Garcia’s column, from UOL, Jian Kayo’s mother, Marcia Soares, took São Paulo to court. He charged around R$500,000 for moral damages and payment for psychological treatment.
The family alleged that Jian Kayo suffered all kinds of abuse in São Paulo, where he lived for seven years. He was reportedly the victim of bullying because of his hair by club directors and staff.
The family’s lawyer claims the goalkeeper was ejected from the match and only became involved again when he cut his hair. According to the lawsuit, Jian Kayo left a letter saying that the incident caused her to commit suicide. The goalkeeper was released from São Paulo in January 2021.
According to Diego Garcia’s column, São Paulo claimed that there was no connection between the goalkeeper’s death and his time at the club and also stated that Jian Kayo had a poor family structure, with relatives with serious behavioral problems.
The family’s defense stated that the mother raised her children in a healthy manner and believed that São Paulo was a safe place.
