As written in the statement, the reports “appearing in the media” about the presence of bluetongue among animals in Poland are incorrect. “The Chief Veterinarian reported that as of September 30, 2024, no cases of bluetongue have been recorded in Poland so far. We read that both Lublin Voivodeship and other provinces have bluetongue-free status.
The head of veterinary medicine called on breeders of cows, sheep and goats to pay special attention to the symptoms of bluetongue and to strictly implement the rules to protect animals from this disease.
Blue tongue disease
Bluetongue is an infectious disease that affects ruminants, both domestic and wild. As shown in the information on the website of the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate, the disease affects cattle, sheep and goats, but also affects roe deer, moose, African antelope, camels and elephants. This disease is caused by a virus of the genus Orbivirus (Reoviridae).
