The buffer zone at the border will be expanded

The operation of the buffer zone on the border with Belarus will be extended for another 90 days, the head of the Interior and Administration Ministry, Tomasz Siemoniak, said in Kielce on Thursday. He added that the ministry is finalizing work on the new regulations, which will come into force from September 11.

Since June 13, a buffer zone with a ban on staying has been in force on a section of approximately 60 km of the border with Belarus in Hajnówka County (Podlaskie Voivodeship). It was introduced for 90 days on the basis of the regulations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration. For more than 40 km it is not allowed to stay in a strip 200 meters wide from the border line, for 16 km the strip is approximately 2 km wide.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration announced that the functioning of the buffer zone on the border with Belarus will be extended for another 90 days.

At the Ministry of the Interior and Administration we are finalizing work on a new regulation on this matter, which will come into force from September 11.

– Siemoniak informed.

He added that the ministry does not want to change the zone’s operating rules or the distancing.

The zone has brought concrete and good results. It is mainly aimed at people smugglers who transport people sent across the border

– said the minister.

He noted that at the turn of May to June, the ministry he headed took “a number of decisions related to changing the method of operation at the border.”

This includes the introduction of riot police and police units, as well as the formation of border guards and the army. Much has also happened on the military side. The army has reorganized itself, introduced new commands and new equipment.

– said Siemoniak.

He added that “recently, in terms of implementation, the agreements regarding the reinforcement of the dam came into force”.

The work has been going on for several days. The dam, which opens so easily with jacks and practically leaks, will be reinforced

– said the coordinating minister of special services.

Conversation with Border Guard officers

He said he had discussed this issue with Border Guard agents, who assessed that “the new solutions will make it impossible to cross the border so easily”. He also reported that work was underway to reinforce the electronic barrier.

Siemoniak was at the Kielce Fair on Thursday at the International Defence Industry Exhibition. He noted that one of the companies “that carries out work on the border presented a model of an electronic barrier”.

These are not cheap things, but to seal the border, Prime Minister Donald Tusk also spoke about it, it is an absolute priority for the government

– observed the minister.
