“The Racibórz Dolny reservoir, which caught the flood wave on the Oder, contains approximately 102 million cubic meters of water, which is 55 percent of its capacity. The polder near Buków contains approximately 20.2 million cubic meters of water, which constitutes 35 percent of its capacity,” Polish Waters said.
The situation in the Vistula and Odra river basins in the area of operations of Wody Polskie in Gliwice is stabilising. The water level is gradually decreasing. We continue to work on the ground, monitoring the operation of hydrotechnical facilities and carrying out necessary interventions.
– said representatives of Polish Waters – Regional Water Management Board in Gliwice (RZGW) in an announcement on Friday morning.
The amount of water in the tank decreases
On Tuesday, the Racibórz Dolny reservoir collected 147.9 million cubic meters. water, which constitutes approximately 80% of its capacity. Since then, along with the stabilization of the hydrometeorological situation, the amount of water collected there has been systematically decreasing. Currently, it contains approximately 102 million cubic meters. water (approx. 55% of capacity).
The facility operates in accordance with water management instructions and is supervised by employees of PGW WP RZGW in Gliwice, who supervise its proper functioning and check the correctness of the control and measuring equipment and other elements of the reservoir. Thanks to the reduction of water runoff from the canopy, the water level in the bed of the Odra River below stabilises, which allows the relief of the stressed embankment, especially in critical places.
– said representatives of Polish Waters.
The water level in the Buków Polder is also decreasing – on Friday it was approximately 20.2 million cubic meters, or approximately 35%. capacity.
The facility performs its tasks flawlessly under the supervision of employees of Wody Polskie in Gliwice
– said representatives of RZGW.
It is forbidden to drive on landfills
Polish Waters receives reports of potential threats and works in the field, monitoring the water levels of rivers and reservoirs. Due to the saturation of the Odra and Vistula river basins, embankments are monitored. By decision of the RZGW director, the ban on movement on river embankments has been extended until September 29. It does not apply to crisis management services, as well as other units and institutions created to protect against the effects of floods.
Due to the improvement of the hydrometeorological situation, the chairman of the municipality of Zebrzydowice and the chairman of the municipality of Rudziniec decided to cancel the flood alarm in the area of the mentioned municipalities.
Flood reserves are maintained in all multifunctional reservoirs located at the Polish Water Administration in Gliwice and are gradually being reconstructed. We would also like to inform you that we are in contact with crisis management services and participate in organized meetings

Racibórz Dolny Reservoir with a capacity of 185 million cubic meters began to be filled on Sunday morning to absorb excess water flowing from the Oder. The construction of the dry reservoir in Racibórz was completed at the turn of May and June 2020. It covers 26 square kilometers. The length of the reservoir dams is more than 20 km. The Racibórz reservoir is connected to the Buków Polder located above, which was put into operation in 2002. As part of this investment, the following works were carried out: 14.5 km of embankments constituting lateral barriers of the polder, two structures allowing control of the polder operation and a dividing embankment.
