A number of UK supermarkets have withdrawn some popular food products over concerns that they may be unsafe for consumption.
The Food Standards Agency has issued several alerts in recent weeks, urging shoppers to return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Some products are being pulled from shelves due to concerns about their high cooking temperatures, while others are at risk of salmonella and cyanide contamination. Here is a comprehensive list of products that should be returned to retailers.
Tesco Plant Chef 2 meatless burgers with a melting center

Tesco has taken the precaution of recalling its Tesco Plant Chef 2 meatless burgers with a melting center over fears that the center of the burgers could retain a high temperature after cooking, increasing the risk of burns to customers.
The FSA added: “If you have purchased the above product, please do not eat it. Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund (no receipt required) or contact Tesco Customer Service on 0800 505 555.”
Heron’s Foods smiley surprise egg

Heron Food is recalling Smileys Surprise Eggs because they contain hazelnuts (nuts) that are not listed on the label, posing a risk to anyone with a nut allergy.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction listed by the NHS:
- Dizziness or vertigo
- Itchy skin or a raised rash
- Swelling of the lips, face and eyes
- Coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, noisy breathing or a hoarse voice
- Sneezing or an itchy, runny or stuffy nose
- Feeling sick or sick
- Stomach ache
- Diarrhea
The NHS added: “You may develop symptoms immediately after eating the food you are allergic to or days later.” A mild allergy can be treated with antihistamines, but a severe reaction may require “emergency medication” such as an EpiPen.
Dunnes sells Italian tomato and basil sauce

The FSA said the sauce is a “potential health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk ingredients” because milk is not a declared ingredient.
Al’Fez Natural Tahini
- Package sizes: 160g and 270g
- Best Before: All date codes between July 2024 and December 2025
Several supermarkets, including Asda and the Co-op, have recalled Al’Fez Natural Tahini after salmonella was found in the product. This does not affect other Al’Fez products.
Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting.
Buram Cerezli nuts in syrup

- Best Before: Originally 4/30/2025 and 6/30/2025, but the recall has since been updated to include all dates
Leo’s Import Export & Trading Ltd is recalling buram nuts in syrup due to possible foreign objects. The FSA warned that the product also contains apricot kernels, which can release cyanide when ingested, making the product unsafe to eat.
FAS advises: “If you have purchased the above product, please do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund or to Leo’s Import Export & Trading Ltd for a full refund.”
