Świątek needed rest
After a not very successful performance at the US Open, Świątek took a break. In New York, our tennis player was eliminated in the quarterfinals. After the defeat, the 23-year-old explained that she needed to rest.
A few days ago, Świątek decided to withdraw from the Seoul tournament. She had never flown to the competition in Toronto before. In both cases it was explained by fatigue.
Świątek gave the reason
Now the reason is different. Świątek will not play in the tournament in Beijing which starts on Wednesday for personal reasons.
Due to personal reasons, I am forced to withdraw from the China Open tournament in Beijing. I am very sad because I had a great time playing and winning this tournament last year and was really looking forward to returning there. I know the fans will experience some great tennis there and I regret not being able to participate in it this time. – Świątek informed via WTA.
Świątek repeated Radwańska’s feat
Last year, Świątek triumphed in Beijing. In the final, she gave Ludmila Samsonowa no chance, defeating her 6:2, 6:2.
Thus, Świątek repeated the feat of Agnieszka Radwańska, winner in the Chinese capital in 2011 and 2016.
Sabalenka can reduce the loss
Świątek’s absence in Beijing means the Pole will not defend the points she scored there last year. This is an opportunity for Aryna Sabalenka, second in the WTA rankings, to close the gap on our tennis player.
A few days ago, the Belarusian announced that her goal at the end of the current season is to be number one in the world ranking.
