Tenth medal for Poland! Daria Pikulik won silver in the omnium

On Sunday in Paris, Daria Pikulik was crowned Olympic runner-up in the track cycling omnium competition, or overall cycling.

Daria Pikulik came in eighth place after three all-around cycling competitions but as RMF FM reporter Patryk Serwański noted it was the last competition i.e. the points race gives you the greatest chance to improve your achievements – 70 laps of the track, every 10 laps a finish, where track cyclists score points.

They can also be earned if drivers complete a lap of the track and catch up to the peloton again. The Polish woman did just that – she scored points in the finishes and managed to complete two laps. This composed lap allowed him to advance into the medal position for the second time.

The American came in first place Jennifer Valenteand the third from New Zealand Wollaston Ally.

Daria Pikulik, becoming Olympic runner-up in the omnium in Paris, won the fourth Polish track cycling medal in history and the first in 52 years. In 1972, in Munich, the bronze was won jointly by Andrzej Bek and Benedykt Kocot.

In total, Polish cyclists of all specialties achieved achievements 12 Olympic medals – eight silvers and four bronzes.

Daria Pikulik’s silver is the 10th medal for the whites and reds in the Paris race which ends on Sunday.

She became the only Polish Olympic champion in the French capital. Aleksandra Miroslawwho won the sport climbing time trial. She came third in the same competition Aleksandra Kalucka.

In addition to the track cyclist, the whitewater canoeist won silver medals Klaudia Zwolińska in the K1 competition, volleyball team and boxer Julia Szeremeta in the up to 57 kg category.

Furthermore, the places on the lowest step of the podium were won by: sword staff, double rowing four, tennis player Iga Swiątek and Natalia Kaczmarek in the 400 m race.
