Tens of thousands of music fans flocked to Berlin’s Lollapalooza music festival in midsummer weather. Organizers expected more than 50,000 visitors to the two-day festival, which kicked off at the Olympic Stadium. The highlight of the first night was supposed to be an appearance by summer hit rapper David Sheerin (‘Belly Legs Po’).

Fans danced energetically in front of the seven stages from the afternoon, enduring the heat, and many spectators were holding fans even though the temperature was over 30 degrees. Tips for coping with the heat were shown in a video. According to the organizers, the festival started off smoothly.

High security measures in Solingen

After the deadly knife attack in Solingen, the organizers announced that they would work with the authorities to adjust security measures to the current situation. As with any major event, the organizers stressed that the level of security was high. Concerts by British singer Sam Smith (‘I’m Not The Only One’), rapper Crow (‘Easy’) and Nigerian Afrobeat musician Burna Boy (‘City Boys’) appeared to go ahead without major delays until the evening.

Lollapalooza has been held at the Berlin Olympic Stadium since 2018. The American festival was founded in 1991 by Perry Farrell, singer of the band Jane’s Addiction. In 2015, Lollapalooza celebrated its European premiere at the Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin.
