“I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she will and will fight for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “I think she’s a talented leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we lead with calm and not chaos. I was thrilled that Tim Walz was chosen as my vice presidential candidate, as he has been a champion for LGBTQ+ people for decades, In Vitro, and women’s rights to their own bodies.”
Governor Tim Walz immediately responded to the endorsement.
— I am grateful to Taylor Swift and I say that as a cat owner, he said. “It was eloquent and clear, and that is the kind of courage we need in America,” he added.
Friendship Bracelets for Kamala
The campaign already sells gadgets that look like friendship bracelets, which are sold at the singer’s shows. The two-pack sells for $20 and is available for pre-order.
Swift wrote in her post that she hopes her fans will also vote in the upcoming presidential election.
“Remember you must be registered to vote!” Swift wrote. “I also think it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll provide a link where you can register and find voting dates and information.”
Swift captioned her post, “Taylor Swift, the childless cat lady,” referring to statements by 2021 Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance, who was then running for Senate, in an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News. Vance, who was then running for Senate, complained that the country was run by Democrats, corporate oligarchs and “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are unhappy with their lives and the choices they’ve made, so they want the rest of the country to be unhappy, too.”
Swift also responded to her image being manipulated by artificial intelligence. Swift reportedly supported Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
As she said, AI spreads misinformation, which led her to reveal who she will vote for in the upcoming election. “The easiest way to combat misinformation is to spread the truth,” the singer wrote.
Trump posted photos on Truth Social of the pop singer wearing an Uncle Sam outfit reminiscent of a World War I-era recruitment poster with the words: “Taylor Swift wants you to vote for Donald Trump.”
Trump signed off on the post on his Truth Social account with, “I do!” He later told Fox Business that he knew nothing about the photos.
“I don’t know anything about them except that someone created them,” Trump said. “I didn’t create them. They were all invented by other people. Artificial intelligence is very dangerous,” he said.
In 2020, Swift accused Trump of “fueling white supremacy and racism” and putting “the lives of millions of Americans at risk to maintain power.”
The pop star was previously known for being apolitical, but in recent years she has become an outspoken supporter of President Joe Biden’s policies.
Fans were quick to react to Swift’s post. While she has limited comments on her Instagram, fans have taken to other social media platforms and are sharing her post widely.
More than 20,000 Swifties joined the Zoom webinar on August 27. The group went on to raise more than $122,000 for Harris and Walz’s campaign, along with other prominent supporters of the Democratic candidate, including Becca Balint and Chris Deluzio, and Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Ed Markey, Elizabeth Warren and Carole King.
Swifties for Kamala
Swifties for Kamala, a popular group of Taylor Swift fans supporting Kamala Harris’ campaign, was launched immediately after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential election.
Emerald Medrano, a 22-year-old Swiftie from Texas, decided to take action.
“I feel like we American Swifties should be organizing en masse and helping campaign for Kamala Harris and spreading the word about how terrible Republican 2025 would be. We need to help people make the right decision this November,” she wrote.
Within a week, Swifties for Kamala had tens of thousands of followers on social media — the Swifties 4 Kamala (S4K) TikTok account currently has nearly 122,000 followers.
“I started S4K because I believe in the best of Swifties,” Medrano said. “In our kindness, sense of humor, and passion. I knew that as Swifties, we could come together and create something beautiful.”
