The decision could have threatened Wrocław’s safety against flooding. However, Tauron explains that it was not a discharge of water, but that water began to flow spontaneously over the edge of the reservoir. The chairman of the Tauron Group, Grzegorz Lot, expressed his indignation in a comment to “Rzeczpospolita”. – (EN) I am outraged by the position of Polish Waters. We are accused of secretly dumping water in Lubachów. Nothing of the sort happened. There was so much water in the reservoir that it overflowed the dam. This is an element that cannot be controlled. In one hour alone, between 12:00 and 13:00 (15 September), the water level in the Lubachów reservoir rose by more than half a metre – explains chairman Lot.
“Shocking news”
Immediately after President Kopczyńska’s statement, Prime Minister Tusk intervened. – The information we received from you about the water discharge, the lack of information and the lack of cooperation are shocking – the Prime Minister said during the meeting of crisis personnel in Wrocław, addressing the representative of Polish Waters.
– We, as Polish Waters, were not informed about this discharge. And this water goes to Marszowice (Wrocław housing estate – ed.). We did it last night. More than 100 soldiers went to put bags on the landfills. (…) Stacking the bags is difficult. It is not known whether an evacuation will be necessary, Kopczyńska said in the morning. After a few hours, however, the matter began to become clearer.
Tauron chairman accuses Wody Polskie of disinformation
Tauron explains that the situation occurred spontaneously and was not caused by the company’s actions. – On Sunday, water overflowed uncontrollably over the top of the Lubachów hydroelectric power station dam. This happened after one of the largest water inflows ever recorded in the reservoir, which was impossible to control. Due to the distance from the dam, the effects of the overflow were felt in the Mietków reservoir after several hours on Monday, September 16 – explains the company.
