Heron Foods, a popular supermarket in the Liverpool area, has urged customers to return children’s treats due to the risk of contamination.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Heron Foods is recalling Smileys Surprise Egg because it contains hazelnuts (nuts) which are not listed on the label.
“This means that the product is a potential health risk for anyone allergic to hazelnuts (nuts).”
The FSA added: “If you have purchased the above product and are allergic to hazelnuts (nuts), do not eat it.
“Instead, return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.”

Symptoms of a food allergic reaction listed by the NHS include:
- Dizziness or vertigo
- Itchy skin or a raised rash
- Swelling of the lips, face and eyes
- Coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, noisy breathing or a hoarse voice
- Sneezing or an itchy, runny or stuffy nose
- Feeling sick or sick
- Stomach ache
- Diarrhea
The NHS added: “You may develop symptoms immediately after eating the food you are allergic to or days later.” A mild allergy can be treated with antihistamines, but a severe reaction may require “emergency medication” such as an EpiPen.
Any difficulty breathing or swelling of the lips, mouth, throat or tongue is an emergency and 911 should be called.
Other signs you need to call 999 include:
- Turning blue
- The child is flaccid, flexible or unresponsive.
Elsewhere, Irish multinational retail chain Dunes Stores has withdrawn Italian tomato-basil sauce from the market.
Italian tomato-basil sauce is contaminated with milk, which is not disclosed on food labels.

The FSA said the sauce was “a potential health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk ingredients”.
Popular supermarket Asda has also recalled Al’Fez Natural Tahini because it has been contaminated with salmonella.
