the important one
Employees of an association in Nancy protested the dismissal procedure carried out against two of its employees. The issue was a new internal regulation introduced this summer that prohibits the wearing of religious symbols. However, both employees were wearing headscarves.

Members of the association of reception and social reintegration (ARS) in Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) mobilized to avoid the dismissal of two employees who wore the niqab, reports France Bleu. A new internal regulation introduced this summer to employees prohibits the wearing of religious symbols at work. A measure that has caused incomprehension among the employees of the association who met in a general meeting on Tuesday, September 24, to ask management to revoke the clause they consider “stigmatizing” and “discriminatory”.

“These are colleagues who do their job perfectly, who have been with the association for three, four years. It has never been a problem. In France, we can practice our profession and be Muslim, be Catholic, be Jewish”, estimates Laura, an employee at ARS for 15 years. For Emmanuel, a social worker, the new regulation goes against the values that the association defends. For now, ARS management has not commented on the matter.
