In North Rhine-Westphalia, the state parliamentary groups of the CDU, SPD, Greens and FDP agreed on a procedure for the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the knife attack in Solingen.

According to a joint statement on Tuesday afternoon, the corresponding motion will be included on the plenary agenda in November. The election of the president and members of the commission should also take place at the November plenary session.

“Parliament must also clarify the background of the Islamist terrorist attack in Solingen and draw lessons from it,” explained the leaders of the parliamentary group. “We owe it (…) to the victims.” In the knife attack in Solingen at the end of August, a suspected Islamist, a 26-year-old Syrian, killed three people with a knife.
