Snails won’t touch your garden plants with the “amazing” natural attractant they want

Wet weather encourages snails to wander throughout your garden and eat garden plants.

Although snails are part of the ecosystem, you may be dismayed when they ruin your vegetable patch and beautiful flowers.

Instead of using exterminators on diatomaceous earth, there is a much more humane way to keep their population under control.

Forget eggshells, coffee grounds, snail traps and snail pellets, one Reddit user may be onto something.

“I’ve just started planting stuff in my garden, but I’m quickly noticing that slugs get into the plants very quickly. What’s the best way to repel or kill them?” one Reddit user inquired.

One respondent recommended planting “sacrificial marigolds”, which seems to have worked a treat.

“I’ve tried it this year for the first time and it’s amazing how they all gravitate to them and wipe them out,” replied someone else.

“None of my other plants have been touched though, so the marigolds are doing the job!” Delighted, another posted: “That’s awesome; I’m going to get some.”

A person who has tried the sacrificial marigold hack explained the following steps.

“Sometimes I continue by collecting them from the marigolds and placing them in the field opposite my house.”

For those lucky enough to have the space and means to create a pond in their garden, this is also highly recommended.

By introducing natural predators such as frogs and ducks into the environment, the number of snails eating your plants will likely decrease.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) said: “Traps such as scraped rinds from half an orange, grapefruit or melon can be placed cut side down or cans partially filled with beer and embedded in the soil near sensitive plants. Check and empty them regularly, preferably every morning.”
