Several countries join Lebanon ceasefire proposal
The United States, France, the European Union and several countries, including Arab states, called for a “immediate ceasefire for twenty-one days on the border between Lebanon and Israel to provide an opportunity for diplomacy and avoid further escalation on both sides”, announced a joint press release distributed exclusively by the White House and the Elysée.
“It is time to reach a settlement on the Israel-Lebanese border that ensures security and allows civilians to return to their homes,” the text says.
“The ongoing exchange of fire since October 7, and particularly over the past two weeks, threatens to escalate the conflict and harm civilians.”adding a declaration agreed to by the United States, Australia, Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Qatar.
“We call for broad support and immediate support from the Israeli and Lebanese governments.”conclude the press release.
