Initial investigations indicate that there were three people in the vehicle at the time of the accident, but they were no longer there when emergency services arrived. One man was found in a field near Lindern. Mr A was taken by ambulance to hospital with serious injuries and admitted. The other two people were not found.
The speed of impact was so fast that it is possible that people were still injured at the edge of the field or were trying to hitchhike. Accordingly, a helicopter was used to search the area around the accident site to find the injured. Police also deployed a search team that day to search the field around the accident site. Police were unable to say whether any new information had emerged from this operation as of Thursday evening.
Police are continuing to appeal to witnesses for information via the number 02452/9200 and via the website and direct link (https://polizei.nrw/artikel/anzeige-tipp).
