Traditionally, Traveldata researchers compared the main factors influencing package travel costs. Jet fuel cost PLN 3.43 per liter last week, and a year ago it was PLN 4.04 per liter, which is 15.1 percent more (a week ago the price was 8.9 percent lower, and two weeks ago it was 1.4 percent). In turn, the zloty in “average tourist settlements” was stronger than a year ago, by more than 2 percent (a week ago it was stronger, by 1.7 percent, and two years ago, by more than 3 percent).
Strong zloty and stable oil prices help tour operators
How did these two factors affect the average annual change in tourist price costs? The combined impact of still quite low fuel prices and the strong zloty varied between -105 and -115 PLN (a week ago it was between -100 and -110 PLN, and two weeks ago between -105 and -115 PLN).
“However, it should be clearly noted that the current situation is largely the result of a very high baseline from a year ago, both with regard to exchange rates and the rise in oil and fuel prices, which are direct but rather short-term effects of the Russian aggression against Ukraine on February 24, 2022. It should also be remembered that the impact of changes in fuel and currency prices on tourist prices, depending on the tour operator, is more or less delayed (including through hedging contracts and margin policies), and their effects should be treated in average (asymptotic) target categories,” the authors reserve and add another illustration.
According to Traveldata analysts, among the top destinations, the annual increase in average travel prices included Greece and Bulgaria. In the case of the first, the difference was PLN 226, and in the second case – PLN 86. Travel prices fell to the Canary Islands by PLN 52, to Turkey by PLN 146, and to Egypt – by PLN 339.
From less frequented directions the largest annual price increases were recorded in mainland Spain, Albania, Italy and Malta – by PLN 776, PLN 454, PLN 302 and PLN 167. Prices for trips to Portugal and Mallorca fell slightly – by PLN 7 and PLN 54, and most significantly for trips to Cyprus, Morocco and Tunisia – by PLN 232, PLN 247 and PLN 294.
Which travel agencies have reduced prices?
Traveldata also checked annual prices at individual travel agencies. It found that the largest decreases were recorded by Rainbow, Grecos and Itaka – by approximately PLN 470, PLN 200 and PLN 130. Average prices at other travel agencies were higher than last year, ranging from approximately PLN 30 (Anex) to over PLN 1,000.
