According to unofficial media reports, on Tuesday the government will work on a project that will permanently introduce the second pension indexation if inflation in the first half of the year exceeds 5%. This would not happen this year, otherwise the situation – as money.pl points out – will be different in 2025.
– We expect inflation to remain above 5% in the first quarter of next year.. – comments Jakub Borowski, chief economist at Credit Agricole bank, in an interview with the website.
Additional indexation of pensions
As we have read, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy presented an estimate of payments in its assessment of the effects of the regulations attached to the Law. The hypothetical indicator of additional indexation is 6% and its effects concern the last four months of 2025 and the first two months of 2026. The ministry estimates the costs of indexation at approximately PLN 8 billion.
The idea of double indexation of pensions has already appeared in the electoral promises. The seventh specification of the Civic Coalition was: “We will introduce a second indexation of pensions and annuities when inflation exceeds 5%.“It was later added that the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy included the bill in the list of government legislative work. The Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers is working on it.
Fourteenth retirement
Let us remember: this year, the fourteenth pension, paid ex officio, will go into the pensioners’ accounts in September.
According to the Social Security Institution, the fourteenth total amount will be PLN 1,780.96 grosso, which is the current minimum pension. The full amount is available to people whose basic benefit, e.g. retirement or disability pension, does not exceed PLN 2,900 gross. In the case of people whose basic benefit is between PLN 2,900 and PLN 4,630.96 gross, the pension will be reduced according to the zloty-for-zloty principle.
Approximately 8.9 million pensioners will receive their 14th pensionincluding 6.4 million people will receive the full amount (at the lowest pension amount), and 2.5 million people will receive a lower amount because they receive benefits exceeding PLN 2,900 per month.
