Bargain hunters are always roaming the shrink sections of supermarkets, but one Sainsbury’s shopper has hit the jackpot with a find she believes is unbeatable.
On Reddit, a customer shared a photo of a pizza from the Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference range that she snapped up at an amazingly low price. A wood-fired pizza topped with spicy Italian pepperoni and roquito peppers usually retails for £5.
But this lucky man struck gold when he found a pizza worth just fourpence. “I don’t think I’ll ever beat this,” he boasted. “I didn’t think it would actually go up to that price, but lo and behold, 4p.”
The post sparked speculation among other Reddit users, with one suggesting that a member of staff had priced it so cheap so they could buy it for themselves later. “Good chance the person with the yellow label printer had reserved this for themselves,” they commented.
“Was it near the back of the refrigerator shelf, slightly hidden from view?” However, the original poster dismissed the conspiracy theory and attributed the low price to a simple mistake.
“It was the last one on the shelf, it was in the normal place they keep them, not the sale section,” the original poster clarifies. “Also the best before date is tomorrow. I definitely thought it was a mistake.”
Meanwhile, other Redditors expressed admiration for the man’s incredible deal. One joked: “I would list this as a favorite achievement on a dating site, on my cv, in my eulogy.” Another shouted, “That would be a win at ten times the price.”
A jealous third person remarked: “4p is how much it would have cost in our Sainsburys.” While a fourth joked: “They were definitely going to put £4 in here, great find, 10/10 job from the staff.”
Recalling similar success, another person wrote: “Managed a visit to Morrisons the other week where they got a wrapped counter pizza for one (ham and cheese) for 14 bushels and grabbed all 4 in the freezer!”
