Basic
The Russian ship Ruby, carrying 20,000 tons of damaged ammonium nitrate, is heading towards the Pas-de-Calais Strait, after being rejected by several ports.

The ship “Ruby” continues its journey in search of a port willing to welcome it. This Russian ship, which was caught in an Arctic storm in September, needs repairs. The problem: It is struggling to find a landing point, due to its cargo of ammonium nitrate, an explosive substance that most notably caused the massive explosion at Beirut port in 2020.

Three weeks later, the Ruby was back on course, although it still suffered from propulsion failure and a rudder problem. Its hull is said to be cracked, but it is still considered “seaworthy”. Reports stated that the ship is now heading towards the Pas-de-Calais Strait Nord littoral.

Destination Malta ?

As it passes close to the British coast, its final destination could be Malta, but local authorities have already made it clear that it will not be allowed to dock until it unloads its cargo of ammonium nitrate. Is Ruby destined to sail the waters forever? Sooner or later a solution must be found.
