We have been waiting for almost three decades for a player who will set a new goalscoring record in Spain.
Jan Urban took more than five years to score 48 goals (Osasuna Pamplona, Real Valladolid), Lewandowski achieved this feat in his third season at Barcelona. The next Polish player – Roman Kosecki (Osasuna, Atletico Madrid) – is far behind them (22 goals).
Barcelona – Getafe. How did Robert Lewandowski play?
Lewandowski rose to the top on Wednesday night, already in the 19th minute of the match against Getafe. His marksman instinct did not fail him. He was where he needed to be, and when the opposing goalkeeper did not catch the ball after Jules Kounde’s cross, the Pole acted like a true striker and pushed it into the net from close range.
This was Lewandowski’s seventh goal of the season (first in the league against Getafe), he is still top of the scoring charts. Behind him are Raphinha and Kylian Mbappe (five goals each), but the Real star has just suffered an injury that will keep him out for around three weeks. The Frenchman should be able to make it to El Clasico (October 26), but it remains to be seen how he will perform then.
