Rio City Hall stipulates free transportation on election day

The City of Rio de Janeiro, through the Municipal Transport Secretariat, this Friday (27) published a decree extending free transportation during the elections. Apart from buses, BRT and VLT, vans will also have free admission on October 6, when the first shift takes place. If there is a second round, the benefits will be extended until October 27.

This free service will be valid from 06.00 to 20.00 to make it easier for voters to access the TPS and go home. Bus companies must operate with 100% of their fleet to meet demand. The move follows a decision by the STF, which stipulated free transport on election day throughout Brazil.

According to the Regional General Election Court (TRE-RJ), all modes of transportation in the city and state will be free, but there is still no detailed information regarding the operation of subways, trains and ferries.
