“Recently, Krzysztof Bosak put forward the idea of right-wing primaries to select a presidential candidate. A few words from a supporter of cooperation with the Confederation, which we showed in Bydgoszcz, why it is a bad idea in the current situation,” wrote PiS MP Łukasz Schreiber in Platform X, presenting a number of arguments against the right-wing primaries.
Firstly, there is too little time and too many problems to solve. Let us consider the biggest one – who would have the right to vote for them, how to check this with the different parties, etc. Secondly, if there is a common candidate, we would have to go much further, and I do not think anyone would be willing to do so. I am referring, for example, to the club in the Sejm and the parliamentary elections. Thirdly, which electoral commission would such a candidate run for? Party – why primaries? Independent – who would spend money on the campaign
– he argued Lukasz Schreiber.
Fourthly, are you sure that everyone in the Confederation itself is in favour of the idea and would submit to such choices and then get involved in the campaign? I sincerely doubt it. Fifthly, from an electoral point of view, this is a questionable move. There are no miracles – such a candidate should gather less than 2 or 3 candidates, and the total number of votes has no chance of exceeding 50%. Sixthly, the Polish model of electing the president (as bad as the prerogatives of the head of state) means that we are dealing with real primaries in the first round. Since 1990, the second round has always included the candidate from the broadly understood right-wing camp and the candidate from the liberal left (except for the anomaly in 2000).
– emphasized the PiS politician.
Schreiber: I imagine a pact of mutual support for the right-wing candidate in the second round
Seventh, what brings benefits in the US will not bring them in Poland. There is no second round of voting abroad, so such a measure is necessary there. There is no tradition in our country of raising money for candidates. There are no procedures to protect the system. There are also no simultaneous elections to Congress, which is an additional motivation in the United States. Finally, there is no vice-presidential candidate, which was sometimes the hope of uniting the parties after the difficult primaries, see Reagan-Bush in 1980.
– he added.
The PiS MP noted that he does not see any benefits in the possible organization of right-wing primaries.
In short, I really don’t see any benefit. However, there are many objections and unfavorable media outlets ready to discredit the idea. But is the idea completely bad? I imagine such a pact in the form of a joint commitment to mutual support for the candidate who will enter the second round. As well as a debate for conservative media with the participation of candidates who support a number of specific values.
– he wrote.
