Main risks and conflicts
The professor drew attention to the risks that were discussed before the coalition took power, pointing to potential internal conflicts within the coalition, which is made up of several groups. So far, these fears have not materialized in a way that could significantly impede the exercise of power. However, the president does not always cooperate with the government, which was predictable.
Presidential campaign
The conversation also touched on the upcoming presidential campaign. Professor Annusewicz expressed his conviction that there is no threat to the coalition until the presidential elections. He drew attention to the plan to use the legislative time until the election of a new president, which could be an effective mechanism for action.
Agreements from previous governments
Voter expectations regarding accountability of previous governments were also a major issue. The professor noted that hardline Civic Coalition voters expect swift action on this issue, but an excessive focus on settlements without positive action could discourage moderate voters.
Partnerships
The professor also referred to Donald Tusk’s proposal on civil partnerships. He stressed that this measure aims to attract the centre-left electorate. According to Annusewicz, although ideological issues are important, they do not have a direct impact on the economy or the legal system, but rather are a symbol of an ideological shift.
Stability of the Confederation and Law and Justice
Analysing the position of other parties, Professor Annusewicz emphasised the stability of the Confederation and Law and Justice, although the latter has lost its leading position in the polls. She pointed to the stable leadership of Jarosław Kaczyński as a key factor in maintaining support.
Prospects for presidential candidacy
At the end of the conversation, Professor Annusewicz assessed the chances of the Law and Justice Committee creating a new presidential candidate. She emphasized that although the candidacy of a new and lesser-known person may be risky, previous experience shows that it is possible with adequate support from the party.
