Since 2018, 685,777 parents have used the option of registering the birth of a child via the electronic service, i.e. without having to go to the office, and this number is constantly growing. The registration process takes place on the ePUAP platform, where the parent fills out the form, enters the child’s details and then signs the application electronically. Parents only need a Trusted Profile or e-ID, which allows them to confirm their identity.
After registration, documents from the registry office (confirmation of assignment of the PESEL number, electronic copy of the birth certificate, certificate of registration of the child) are sent directly to the ePUAP mailbox and to the email address indicated in the application. – The process is fast, secure and free of charge – encourages the Ministry of Digital Affairs.
How to report the birth of a child online?
The online birth registration must be completed within 21 days after the birth certificate has been issued by the doctor or midwife. This card is then sent to the registry office, which allows the registration process to be completed. After the application has been submitted, the head of the Civil Registry Office prepares the birth certificate, and the parent can choose how to receive the document: electronically, by traditional mail or in person.
However, there is one important aspect of reporting a child’s birth remotely. Parents can choose their own name or names and enter them in the registration form. However, they must remember a few rules. The regulations stipulate that a child can have a maximum of two names. The name cannot be ridiculous, obscene or diminutive. It is possible to give a foreign name, even if it does not clearly indicate the gender, as long as it is commonly attributed to a certain gender.
If the chosen name or names do not meet these requirements, the registry office has the right to refuse registration. In this situation, the civil registry officer himself chooses the child’s name, and the parents may appeal this decision within 14 days.
