Mattress stains can be a thing of the past with this handy hack.
Cleaning a mattress is not an easy task. Sleeping in them every night is bound to leave marks after a while, whether it’s sweat stains from hot summer nights or blood spots scratches or menstrual bleeding.
You can’t exactly pick up your mattress and put it in the washing machine, so how do you get the stains out? Stain removers work in a pinch, but spot treatment of stains on other fabrics usually involves washing them normally, which cannot be done with a large mattress.
According to one social media cleaning fan, it’s easy to remove mattress stains. You only need a mixture of three ingredients and one household appliance – an iron.
In a video shared on TikTok by a woman named Ekcho, she explained that she treats stains on her mattress by soaking a towel in three common ingredients you already have in your kitchen cupboards before wrapping the towel around an iron and using the steam to get to work. products to the mattress.
She said she takes two tablespoons of baking soda, half a cup of laundry detergent, and half a cup of water and mixes them together before soaking a towel in the mixture. Then he twists the towel and wraps it around his iron and heats up the device.
Ekcho said, “Start scrubbing [with the iron]and the steam cleans the mattress.” He then showed a before and after to show that the iron had actually removed the stains from the mattress.
In the initial video, Ekcho also said he adds fabric softener to his mix, but people in the comments warned him not to use the product because it’s “basically melted wax” and can leave residue on the mattress — as well as “ruining” washing machines.
And in response, the woman said she had no idea how “bad” the fabric softener was and said she wouldn’t use it in the future.
Other commenters were amazed at the trick, with many saying they had never thought of using an iron to clean their mattress, but noted that the steam “does wonders” for cleaning.
