Remove grease and dirt from oven doors in ’15 minutes’ with a single household staple

Fans of the cleaning mood, Mrs Hinch, have shared their method of cleaning oven glasses.

Ovens should be cleaned every three months, but may need to be cleaned more often if they are used a lot.

Large families who use the ovens several times a day may need to clean them more often to keep their food from getting dirty and the oven still working efficiently.

One part of the oven that is particularly susceptible to dirt and grime is the oven door. The oven glass can fill up with grease and food waste over time.

With this in mind, Rebecca Louise posted to the ‘Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips’ Facebook group: “How can I clean the oven door? Thanks.”

The post was flooded with over 300 comments from Mrs Hinch’s fans, but the most suggested solution was to use dishwasher tablets.

Val Rees said: “Recently took the door off my oven and used dishwasher tablets to clean the glass. Brilliant. Found there were three glasses but only the top was dirty. I’ve never taken the oven door off. Much easier than I expected.”

Jeanette Atkins replied: “I used a dishwasher tablet on mine and it’s really great. All the glasses are clean.”

Em Louise comments: “Go easy on the foil and use the pink stuff or a dishwasher tablet. Rub in circles. Comes out as good as new.”

Beverley Pound wrote: “I would take the glass off and soak in either a bath or a large sink with two dissolved cheap dishwasher tablets with racks. Works an absolute dream I did last week so impressed.”

Elizabeth Ward said: “Wet a dishwasher tablet and rub it magically lifts it, was skeptical until I tried it.”

Margret Pryce wrote: “Use a dishwasher tablet with a wet cloth. Rub in circles, leave for 15 minutes, then wipe off.”

Paula Collindridge suggested: “A cheap dishwasher tablet, dip in warm water and use like pumice. It sounds like it will scratch the glass, but [I] promise not. The easiest and fastest way I’ve found, and quite therapeutic.”

You can buy dishwasher tablets in most supermarkets. Morrisons Savers Lemon dishwasher tablets cost £1.99 for a pack of 40, which works out at 5p per tablet. Asda All in 1 dishwasher tablets cost £4 for 40, which is 10p per tablet.

The enzymes in the dishwasher tablets can break down protein and starch molecules and help remove grease. The dishwasher tablets on the oven glass can break down stubborn dirt and food waste.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included Cif Cream Cleaner, Cillit Bang and Pink Stuff paste.

Sandra Davies said: “Cif Cream Cleanser and Scrub.” Lesley MacCuish comments: “Pink Stuff removes it effortlessly.”

Shireen Lee replied: “Cillit Bang and metal washer. Bring it out like new.”
