reMarkable Paper Pro Announced as the World’s Thinnest Paper Tablet with Color Display and Front Light

reMarkable has announced its latest paper tablet model called the Paper Pro. The new name indicates a new product series from the company, but it will not replace the existing reMarkable 2 that recently went on sale in India. The reMarkable Paper Pro comes with several new features over the existing paper tablet model, including an all-new display, an improved design, and new accessories, including a new Book Folio case and a new Type Folio case.

The reMarkable Paper Pro is currently available for pre-order only in the US. It comes with a standard Marker pen for $579 (approx. Rs. 48,600) or a Marker Plus pen for $629 (approx. Rs. 52,800).

The reMarkable Paper Pro has a new aluminum and glass design that feels thicker than the reMarkable 2 we recently reviewed. The new, custom-made Canvas Color display may seem like a big deal, but it only allows for nine different colors to be displayed when writing or sketching on the tablet. When reviewing or reading documents, the company claims it supports thousands of colors. The 11.8-inch display also has a built-in reading light, which should be a big improvement over the reMarkable 2, which required external light sources to read in dim or dark environments. It’s unclear whether this front light adjusts automatically, like some of Amazon’s Kindle e-readers.

No details were revealed about the processing speed (or the use of a faster processor) powering the spartan UI, but reMarkable does mention that its new display reduces lag to 12 milliseconds when using the Marker stylus, which the company says is a 40 percent improvement over the reMarkable 2 tablet.

In terms of security, the tablet still lacks a biometric form of authentication and relies on a passcode to lock the device. The company also claims that its new tablet will last 2 weeks on a single charge.

The new reMarkable tablet will work with the older Marker and Marker Plus styluses. The larger form factor has led to a new set of accessories. The Book Folio for the reMarkable Paper Pro will be available in six colors and finishes, and will start at $89. It has an auto-wake feature that is not available on the reMarkable 2 and its accessories.

There’s also a new Type Folio for the reMarkable Paper Pro. This time, the keys are backlit, another improvement over the existing model. It also has an auto-wake-on-open function, as well as a magnetic Marker strip.
