President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Mykola Oleschuk from the post of commander of the Ukrainian Air Force – the text of the relevant decree was published on the website of the head of state.
I have decided to replace the commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I am extremely grateful to all our military pilots, engineers, soldiers of mobile fire groups and air defense units. To all those who really fight for Ukraine – for the result. And we must do the same at the command level – we must become stronger. And we must take care of people. Take care of your team. Take care of all our soldiers.

General Anatoly Kryvonozhko, head of the Ukrainian Air Force’s “Center” command, was authorized on Friday to temporarily act as commander of the Ukrainian Air Force by order of Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrski. This was announced by the Ukrainian General Staff in a statement.
On Thursday, Ukraine’s General Staff reported the loss of the first F-16 fighter jet delivered to Ukraine by the West. It said one of the two F-16s operating in tandem crashed after losing contact with the other aircraft, and its pilot was killed. Both planes were involved in repelling Monday’s Russian missile strike.
Ołeszczuk assured that the causes of the disaster will be thoroughly investigated and will not be hidden from public opinion.

Oleschuk was appointed Air Force Commander on August 9, 2021, replacing Serhiy Drozdov. On the same day, he was introduced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Snake Island.
