There are currently 400,734 motor vehicles registered in the Aachen city area. This was revealed by the statistics of the Aachen City Road Traffic Office as of July 1, 2024. The figure shows a further increase to an absolute record value. A year ago, there were 396,785 vehicles registered, so the year-on-year increase is around one percent.

The growth of pure electric vehicles is impressive. There are now 10,387 registered, compared with 8,539 last year – an increase of more than 21 per cent in this vehicle sector. However, the increase is smaller for hybrid vehicles (petrol and diesel). By 2024, 6,524 roads will run through the city, compared with 6,349 last year (plus 3 per cent).

Statistics show the total number of registered motor vehicles. As expected, the majority of our 306,578 roads fall into the passenger car category. This is followed by trailer motor vehicles (31,966), motorcycles (27,938), trucks (19,009) and tractors (6,311). The registration figures do not include two-wheeled vehicles that only require an insurance number plate (e.g. mopeds) and do not require approval from the road traffic office.
