75 tons of illegal hookah tobacco were found in a warehouse in the Düren district – according to customs, the largest amount seized in Germany to date. Due to the alarm that was triggered, a police patrol went to an industrial complex in a small town near Jülich and found a large amount of untaxed goods, as reported by the customs investigation office responsible for the discovery on September 15.
Customs investigators were immediately called in and seized a total of 112 pallets containing boxes of water pipe tobacco. The resulting tax loss amounted to 3.37 million euros. Two men who were arrested by police during the operation at the warehouse are suspects. They are now in custody.
