Under the Energy Act, the President of the Office of Energy Regulation is appointed by the Prime Minister for a five-year term from among persons selected through an open and competitive recruitment process. Rafał Gawin’s five-year term as President of the Energy Regulatory Office ends on July 23, 2024. The Prime Minister’s Chancellery held a recruitment process for the new president, and the deadline for submitting bids in the competition procedure has expired. on July 19, 2024. Until a successor is elected, the current president will hold the office.

There has been no decision regarding new recruitment

At the beginning of September – according to documents published by the Prime Minister’s Chancellor – no candidates had been selected in the recruitment process.

Moreover – as informed by the Chancellor of the Prime Minister – there is currently no decision regarding new recruitment. – However, after the end of his term of office, the President of the Energy Regulatory Office (as a civil servant – editor) exercises his functions until a successor is appointed – notifying the Chancellor of the Prime Minister.

Interestingly, the Chancellor of the Prime Minister reminded that the law provides for the possibility of temporarily entrusting the duties of the ERO President to the ERO Vice President. – However, only in certain cases which is not the case at the moment – ​​said the Chancellor of the Prime Minister. There is speculation that this person could take over the duties of the current president.
