Pope Francis appears in good shape during pilgrimage to Southeast Asia and Oceania
Pope Francis has recently been confined to a wheelchair due to knee and back problems. In early 2024, the pontiff canceled several meetings because of – according to the Vatican – a cold, bronchitis and the flu.
During his pilgrimage to Luxembourg and Belgium, the Pope will likely focus on the needs of immigrants coming to Europe.
During his pilgrimage to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore, the Pope appeared to be in good health. He successfully completed all points of the rigorous pilgrimage program (including more than 40 events) and covered a total distance of almost 33,000 km.
During his pilgrimage to Luxembourg and Belgium, the Pope will likely focus on the needs of immigrants coming to Europe, and he will also meet with victims of abuse by Catholic clergy.
The pilgrimage program to Benelux is less rigorous than that to Southeast Asia and Oceania. Over four days, the Pope is scheduled to take part in approximately 12 events.
