After World War II, when Europe was still rebuilding, Caterina Valente brought a sense of the wide, wide world into her narrow living room. The Italian singer with a French passport sang about Paris, Honolulu and Cuban festivals. Now Valente has died on September 9th at the age of 93 in Lugano, Switzerland, where she lived for many years. Her press spokesman, Günther Huber, quoted her sons as saying in German media.
